THIS is the best time to post on Instagram in 2022

I try my best to keep abreast of all the latest trends and statistics for social media, especially instagram. My favorite, my irreplaceable. Whilst I am not a social media strategist, I am in fact a Copywriter and content creator. And the copywriter in me has learnt to scour the internet; researching industries, lingo & trends on a certain topic before writing any type of ‘copy’ for that business.

The golden question on every small business owner's lips when it comes to using social media seems to be: “WHEN DO I BLOODY POST!?”

Actually, there are several but let’s just talk about this one for starters…

You can imagine my relief when I came across an article published by LATER BLOG (one of the biggest social media scheduling platforms, ever) which discussed this very question.

Later, actually analysed over 35 million feed posts to find the answer and I think we can all agree, that is a real lot. I think we can trust them guys. Or at least use it as a starting point

Without further adew, I can reveal that the best global time to post is:

6AM

*Soz to all you non-early-risers. Maybe there is a perk to having young, hyper, sleep-averse children?!

These are ‘your local time’

Now, what is annoying, is that Later Blog is an american website and when they refer to time they say:

“Local time”

TF does that mean, guys?

I had to do some further digging…

I think they mean “your local time”

So, 6AM - that sounds better to me.

I did however, come across a lil map of the world with specific posting times for each country and across different time zones.

We in the land of OZ are listed as: 11pm-2am

best time to post on instagram in Australia

Now, as I mentioned - I’m a mum. A very tired, twin-toddler mum and I am NOT awake by 11pm. I fall in a heap in my bed by around 830PM each night. So, this data is nice to know. Knowledge is power BUT, I will not be posting at the time the map suggests for us Australians.

Why? I learnt some other facts about Instagram while I was researching:

Instagram recently confirmed that the number of interactions in the first 30 minutes doesn’t actually determine a post’s ranking in the Home Feed. So there’s no pressure to have your posts go live the moment your audience is most active! Enter the: “early to rise, early to post” engagement strategy.

Later author, Jillian Warren writes:

“By posting earlier in the day, accounts benefit from less competition (globally most posts are shared between 9AM-1PM each day). While also tapping into traffic from users during the first scroll of the day - even if that's a few hours after the post was shared.

By being one of the first to post each day, you’re giving your content the best chance of being seen by your audience, regardless of when they are personally most active on the app.”

Look, there is more data available that you can look into with just the click of a button on the internet - you could also research specifically according to your industry - but this is a great starting point. I dont know about you but, from now on, I’ll be keeping that hot 6AM time in mind and hopefully I’ll not only catch the early risers but also my posts will be competing with far less content at that time and therefore have a better chance of ranking.

THE BEST TIME might be the best time but its got to work for you too!

What else to do?

I suggest monitoring how your audience reacts to different posting times and taking it from there. There are apps around to help you sift through the data of your account too! Later and Flik Hashtags can actually assess your most popular posts and engagement rate to determine when the best time is to post for YOU.
